We are working with Leeds City Council to identify a safe venue in North Leeds for GO RIDE activities.
Saturday mornings for kids - February 2010
For almost 2 months the bad weather has led to the cancellation of these rides but we are hoping for good conditions this coming Saturday, 6th February. Meeting point will be Eccup Moor Road, Eccup, 10am. Ride type and duration will be decided on the day, bring off road bikes because even if the session is done on road, it will be muddy!
In the past we have varied the meeting point of the Saturday kids club, taking in Yeadon BMX track and Temple Newsam Park. Eccup/Harewood we'll consider as our "usual" location. We like a Mum or Dad to accompany their child and we usually stick to cycle tracks, bridal paths and quiet roads. Please email the secretary patrick dot douglas at ntlworld dot com to be put on our weekly email list that gives details of meeting time and locations. Usual meet time is 10am.
At the end of September 2008 we started the group especially for young riders, both boys and girls, mostly aged 8-14. We often meet on Eccup Moor Road at the back of the dogs home, to ride in the Harewood estate, but in recent weeks have varied the location to take in BMX tracks at Yeadon, and the bridle paths and cycle tracks at Temple Newsam Park. We regularly have around 7 or 8 young riders and 4 or 5 parents. We require a mum or dad to accompany their children please. Occasionally we use minor roads where there will be some cars, and this is why we require mum or dad to ride with their young ones. As the location varies from week to week please contact patrick dot douglas at ntlworld dot com to be put on our weekly email list which will provide details of time and place for the coming saturday.
Leeds Mercury Go Ride School links
We have completed several cohorts of GO RIDE activities at Newlaithes Primary School in Horsforth. Feedback is very positive and we hope that we can continue right through the spring into summer. The club would like to thank the various School staff involved, the regional development officer for his support and finally our voluntary coaches for their keen interest and time.
GO RIDE is the British Cycling initiative to promote cycling participation for riders aged under 16 years.
Leeds Mercury CC are the only club in the Leeds area to have achieved GO- RIDE status.
We've already seen an increase in the number of young riders joining the club and we hope that this will continue.
For parents, this means that you can be confident that your children are riding with a recognised club that meets official standards, in terms of coaching and child welfare.
For young riders it means that you can join in and have cycling fun with other people your own age!
URGENT REQUEST! The club needs to find a permanent circuit where we can ride regularly with under 16 riders. The circuit should be of tarmac, have limited public access and, most importantly, be traffic free. If you know of somewhere, or have any ideas or leads, then please let us know as soon as possible!
